“Meet the Beetles! Playing Live at the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum!”

UAIC Special Event 2010

"Meet the Beetles" took place on a Saturday evening at the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum in August 2010 and involved 35 UA volunteers and reached over 1200 people. UA graduate students and faculty interacted with the public as visitors watched and handled ~30 live, charismatic Sonoran Desert beetles which are found only in Arizona and are active in the monsoon season.
What an amazing event!  Nothing could beat your Beetle night!  The theater was packed and the Desert Garden pavilion burgeoned with so many people that for a minute I thought it was the ASDM Gala--but then I noticed adults & children alike transfixed as beetles delicately explored their hands & fingers.  The look of delight was everywhere!  What a triumph!  We were so proud to share a little of it with you!  All the work and energy you and your team poured into Meet the Beetles resulted in a perfect presentation--and a great PR job for your favorite creatures, which now have many more fans!  Your enthusiasm & passion are contagious. Thank you!
